Schaeffer Counseling Center
One of our outreach programs is our partnership with the Schaeffer Counseling Center (SCC). SCC is a not-for-profit counseling center run by a volunteer Board of Directors and staffed by licensed therapists. SCC provides low- and no-cost preventive counseling services to those in the community who could not otherwise afford them, with a special emphasis on children and families.
St. John’s has supported this effort since 2019 by providing space in the church facility for counseling offices. St. John’s also partners with SCC in offering special programs to support the health and well-being of the community.
Community grants also support SCC’s services. SCC’s first grant was for computer equipment allowing it to offer telehealth services during the COVID pandemic.
Sturgis Public Schools partnered with SCC on a special grant program through St. Joseph County to offer free preventive counseling services to those impacted by COVID. Most recently, SCC was awarded a grant from the Michigan School Counselor’s Association to support students and parents in our community.
